When we started recording the album we got to a point where we were faced with a decision: do we make another album in the vein of the first, or do we branch out and try something new. We decided todo both. Take the batch of songs we were working on and recordthem in two completely different ways, creating two very different albums. One would be us experimenting with new sounds and rhythms, the other would be us on our home turf. One organic and acoustic; the other synthetic and processed. One in a studio with a producer, the other in various basements and bedrooms with no one but the band. The album would be called “The Sun and the Moon”-the first album being the lighter “Sun” side, and the secondbeing the darker “Moon” side. Unfortunately, the idea was abandoned. There was just no way we could do it all, given the time we had. So we focused on the first of the two versions, experimenting with new sounds and recording techniques. We enlisted producer Brendan O’Brien and recorded the album at Southern Tracks studio in Atlanta, GA. However, after the release of the album, we found ourselves in the back of the bus at our computers messing around with the alternate versions of the songs again, and the original idea reemerged. In the months that followed we completed the originally intended darker half of the whole. We present them both here as “The Sun and the Moon – Complete.”
